You may have already heard of the upcoming film When Kiran Met Karen because of its controversial subject - an Indian-American actress in New York falls in love with her female co-star while shooting a film in which she plays a lesbian – and because of who's playing the lead. Or rather, who's not playing it.
Bollywood actress Perizaad Zorabian made international headlines in July when she turned down the role due to her “own personal inhibitions about playing a lesbian”, even as she acknowledged, “Kiran is a fantastic role for any actor who has the courage to think with an open mind.”
Two of the television industry's biggest names are forming a company to produce TV programs, movies and Internet entertainment, according to four people familiar with the plan.
Gail Berman, who stepped down this month as president of Paramount Pictures, is teaming up with the person who recommended her for that job two years ago: Lloyd Braun, the former ABC Entertainment chairman who until December was head of Yahoo Inc.'s media group.
BermanBraun, their new venture, initially will focus on TV production, the Internet and movies, the sources said.
The pair eventually will expand into producing stage productions and video games.

Call for Entries: The Nickelodeon Writing Fellowship
Nickelodeon is offering writing fellowships in live action and animated television to culturally and ethnically diverse, new writers. Participants will have hands-on experience writing spec scripts and pitching story ideas.
The program, developed to broaden Nickelodeon's outreach efforts, provides a salaried position for up to one year. The '07 - '08 cycle is tentatively scheduled to begin in October 2007.
The next submission period runs from January 2 - February 28, 2007. Applications and submission guidelines are available on our website at www.nickwriting.com.

The 2nd Annual International Book to Film Festival was held in Houston, Texas FEB 23-26. Co sponsored by Houston Mayor Pro-Tem, Carol Alvarado. This festival concentrates on getting published authors work adapted for the big or small screen. We invite literary agents and film/studio executives to discuss the process and answer the maze of questions for participating authors such as, how do I get my work green-lighted for film production? What books are most likely selected? What role does the genre, characters, cultural reference etc., play in the selection process? Also, to answer questions about the reality of the pros and cons of options. What's the deal with attachments, can't I choose who plays my characters?
