You may have already heard of the upcoming film When Kiran Met Karen because of its controversial subject - an Indian-American actress in New York falls in love with her female co-star while shooting a film in which she plays a lesbian – and because of who's playing the lead. Or rather, who's not playing it.
Bollywood actress Perizaad Zorabian made international headlines in July when she turned down the role due to her “own personal inhibitions about playing a lesbian”, even as she acknowledged, “Kiran is a fantastic role for any actor who has the courage to think with an open mind.”

Nickelodeon is offering writing fellowships in live action and animated television to culturally and ethnically diverse, new writers. Participants will have hands-on experience writing spec scripts and pitching story ideas.
The program, developed to broaden Nickelodeon's outreach efforts, provides a salaried position for up to one year. The '07 - '08 cycle is tentatively scheduled to begin in October 2007.

We invite literary agents and film/studio executives to discuss the process and answer the maze of questions for participating authors such as, how do I get my work green-lighted for film production? What books are most likely selected? What role does the genre, characters, cultural reference etc., play in the selection process? Also, to answer questions about the reality of the pros and cons of options. What's the deal with attachments, can't I choose who plays my characters?
